Hadlow College

Hadlow College is a specialist land based facility, between Tonbridge and Maidstone, set in over 250 hectares of idyllic farmland and countryside comprising a range of habitats, farms, woods, plant collections, gardens, orchards, paddocks and pastures.
It offers full-time and part time courses in areas such as Agriculture, Countryside Management, Animal Care, equine management, etc. and being vocational, is unique in many ways historically, academically as well as in the functions that the various buildings perform. There are 350 staff and 3630 full or part time FE and HE students.
The College has a robust Sustainable Development Strategy and has recently completed the building of a Rural Regeneration Centre to showcase low carbon and renewable energy technology. The new Animal Management Unit is built to a high standard technically incorporating under floor heating and Variable Volume Refrigerant heat pump plants.
The Green Consultancy’s energy survey identified cost reduction opportunities totalling 25% including the insulation of all flat roofs.
“This was our second energy audit so the obvious ‘quick wins’ had already been identified and implemented where financially viable. The consultant understood our constraints and demonstrated a practical and knowledgeable approach to energy saving. We were impressed and grateful that he was able to quantify further valuable projects and recommend ones that were suitable for the latest round of SALIX loans, which was very timely. An unexpected benefit was that we identified some anomalous meter readings in our pre-audit analysis too.”
