The Organisation
Founded in 1980 Cannons Health & Fitness Ltd was one of the first health and fitness companies to operate in the UK. The company was acquired by Nuffield Hospitals, one of the UK's leading providers of independent health care and now forms part of its Wellbeing division.
It now employs 3,500 people and has 170,000 members across its 65 UK sites. These comprise 52 Nuffield Health Fitness & Wellbeing Clubs and 13 local authority sites.
The Green Consultancy Involvement
The Green Consultancy carried out Energy Surveys at 6 clubs chosen by the client and recommended technologies which could be incorporated across the entire estate. We also evaluated variable speed drive and condensing boiler trials and reviewed M&E specifications for new sites and refurbishments.
We identified annual energy savings worth £864k, at the time of the surveys, and equivalent to a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions of 7,700 tonne pa.
To implement our recommendations, the company invested £2.3M with a payback period of under two years and are now saving £1.2M pa as a result.
