The Green Consultancy carried out an energy survey of Watford Leisure Centre Central and identified opportunities to reduce energy costs by 28% with a payback period of under two years.

The leisure centre was built in 2008 with a 25 metre swimming pool, learner pool, a four court sports hall, 60 station gym suite, dance studio, cafeteria, function room and changing rooms.

It was designed to be a model in sustainability with:

  • ground source heat pumps
  • solar panel array for hot water supply
  • heat recovery from air and pool backwash water
  • rainwater recovery
  • Building Energy Management System designed to maximise the use of renewable resources as well as operating the heating, cooling and water systems to conserve energy.

"A very helpful and worthwhile service.  I would recommend it to anyone who wants their business to be at the forefront of environmental practices not only for ethical reasons but also for cost saving ideas to help your business save money."

Adam East, Operations Manager, Watford Leisure Centre Central
