Verification of Energy Savings Workshop
How Do Your Energy Saving Measures, Measure Up?
When energy-saving projects are carried out, it is important to check how effective they have been. This is evidently true where there are contractual consequences, but it can be equally true where there are not. Rigorous evaluation increases trust, and enables you to discriminate between ineffective projects and those which deserve to be replicated. It can identify projects which have failed because of some minor issue which can be readily resolved. A proposal for a project becomes much more credible, and is far likelier to attract funding, if it is known that its results will be exposed to thorough scrutiny.
In this half-day ESTA workshop, energy monitoring and targeting expert Vilnis Vesma presents a rational model for the evaluation process. Using a mix of presentations, examples and numerical exercises he covers the following topics:
- Why objective evaluation is important
- Performance models: the simple but effective approach
- Direct and indirect measurement
- Before-and-after testing
- On-off testing
- Dealing with uncertainty in data and conclusions
Uses ESTA's code of practice for the evaluation of energy savings as the framework of the workshop. Its suggested procedures follow the spirit the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol, have a significant link with BS 16001 (the European standard for energy management systems), and are completely harmonised with best practice in monitoring and targeting as laid out in Carbon Trust guide CTG008.
Who should attend?

- All those setting up and negotiating contracts involving energy saving measures.
- Manufacturers, system suppliers, ESCOs who rely on the certainty of energy savings from their product, systems and services.
