Building Management System (BMS)

A Building Management System controls and monitors a building’s mechanical and electrical equipment such as air handling and cooling plant systems, lighting, power systems and security systems.

In particular, a properly functioning BMS is crucial to minimising energy consumption in large buildings.  Yet most organisations’ BMSs are seriously sub optimal for one or more of the following reasons.

  • Incorrect specification or changes in the organisation that have rendered the specification obsolete
  • Installed by engineers that didn’t properly understand what they are doing nor the client’s needs
  • Settings not updated to suit changing patterns of building use
  • A lack of training to use it – or that person left without training a successor
  • Inadequate maintenance

In many buildings, tens of thousands of pounds worth of equipment is failing to deliver the overall 15-20% energy savings that a well specified, installed, maintained and operated BMS should be delivering.

The Green Consultancy provides a comprehensive range of services to ensure that old or new BMSs are working at peak efficiency and delivering the management information that you need.
