Avoiding the pitfalls and maximising the value of district heating

4_eauc-conference - Peter Hawtin - peterh

4_john-treble-03jun19 - Peter Hawtin - peterhJohn Treble is delighted to be taking part, along with our district heating expert Andrew Snipe and Keith Thomason of University of St Andrews, in a workshop on 20 June at the EAUC Conference this year.

Andrew has extensive experience of designing and optimising district heating networks and will be sharing his expertise and experience – in particular, at Bristol and Lancaster Universities.

This will help you to save ££££s improving the efficiency of your existing system or to achieve your objectives and maximise carbon/cost savings of a new one.

District heating systems require huge investment and have high annual running costs but the potential benefits are significant. However, all too frequently they are:

  • badly designed
  • wasting a high percentage of the energy that they consume
  • assumed to be efficient when they are not remotely so
  • treated as a “black box” that nobody on site understands
  • modified over decades by people who don’t understand what they are doing
  • assumed to be a “good thing” regardless of whether they are the best solution

This session is an opportunity to consider the performance of different network approaches, share best practices with the expert panel and hear about University of St Andrews’ current and potential future district heat networks.

Here are some links to district heating information that will help you get a better understanding of the potential benefits and how to avoid some common problems of poorly designed and managed systems.

I hope to see you at the conference, but if you wish to discuss district heating and aren’t able to attend, please don’t hesitate to contact me - I will be delighted to help.

If you are considering a new DHS or an extension, or want to improve the efficiency of your existing system, please call John Treble, to discuss your requirements, on 01761 419081, or email John@GreenConsultancy.com
