Carbon Management Plan (CMP)3450_15-img-200x265-17 - - becky

Carbon and Energy Management Plans are increasingly required to demonstrate planned carbon reduction, and to set out how this will be achieved within defined timeframes to meet compliance with legislation and/or customer and stakeholder requirements.

The Green Consultancy provides a comprehensive and scientifically rigorous service to create and review such plans for clients in all sectors as described below.

An increasingly important document that many get wrong

Unfortunately, many CMPs underperform or are seriously flawed. The Green Consultancy’s unique energy efficiency methodology avoids all the common pitfalls, and creates robust CMPs that can be trusted to deliver the Scope 1 and 2 carbon reductions required as cost-effectively as possible. We also provide analysis and support to help our clients identify, measure and report their Scope 3 supply chain emissions so that a fully comprehensive CMP can be put in place and implemented. (for Scope definitions see Carbon footprinting.)

Often CMPs are blind to 30% of energy savings opportunities – and these are usually the ones that would be the most cost-effective to implement. This is caused by relying on ‘walk around’ surveys, which don’t get to grips with the most important energy efficiency issues, and result in bolt-on technologies that have not been holistically evaluated, are oversized or deserve a much lower priority.

Our approach to CMPs

As with carbon footprints, CMPs can either be limited to the emissions associated with energy use in buildings, or extended to cover emissions relating to other activities such as business travel, staff commuting and procurement.

A CMP should identify the organisation’s current carbon emissions and a logical series of technical and managerial steps – what, when and by whom - that must be taken to arrive at the required reduction target.

While the optimum starting point for this process is usually an Investment Grade Energy Efficiency Audit, we will be pleased to provide whatever level of support you need in relation to your CMP. Our services include:

  • The desktop review of an existing CMP
  • The upgrade of an existing CMP based on limited surveys
  • Creation of a new CMP based on an Investment Grade Energy Efficiency Audit
  • An annual review of progress towards CMP targets and new carbon reduction opportunities

CMP Review for University of Bedfordshire

“The Green Consultancy carried out a review of our Carbon Management Plan. Their consultant’s expertise in this subject was obvious from the start and it was clear that anything that he didn’t know about carbon and energy management isn’t worth knowing.”

Achieving Net-Zero Carbon for London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine

“Our requirements for this project were quite bespoke; a one-size-fits-all approach would not have worked. Indeed Carbon Management Plans with in-depth Scope 3 reporting are not yet prevalent in the HE sector and, due to the nature of our Institution’s work, the Scope 3 elements needed to be just as robust as Scopes 1 and 2.

This was one of the reasons that I was particularly impressed by how the work was handled. The skill and knowledge that was brought to bear demonstrated a level of sure-footedness that was reassuring not just to myself but also to the other stakeholders involved in the project. Thus, I am glad we went with The Green Consultancy for this project – the breadth and quality of the work delivered was exactly what we required.”
