Our energy efficiency methodology

Optimising the energy efficiency of existing and new buildings and plant is the number one opportunity for cutting energy costs and reducing carbon emissions. Done properly, savings in the order of 20 – 50% can be achieved with commercially attractive paybacks.

However, it is not easy to get right. It is essential to correctly identify and prioritise what to do, and what not to do, at the outset. Seemingly obvious solutions are often seriously suboptimal, or even make matters worse, if the underlying causes are not properly understood. Understanding the causes demands a forensic study and a “walkthrough” survey is rarely adequate.

The Green Consultancy’s energy efficiency audits are guaranteed to meet your objectives and deliver superior outcomes. We use a rigorous scientific approach enabling us to accurately identify the most effective opportunities that deliver the highest savings for the lowest outlay.

At the heart of our approach is one very simple idea: to accurately determine where savings can be made you first have to find out what is not working efficiently, by how much and why.

Amazingly many consultancies fail to measure actual energy efficiencies. As a result, they frequently:

  • overlook the most cost-effective opportunities for energy savings
  • recommend flawed high-cost projects that will either never produce the desired effect, or that will only pay for themselves over a much longer period than predicted
  • provide inadequate business cases so recommendations tend not to be implemented

TGC’s approach is based on determining the difference between the optimal and actual operational efficiencies of systems and buildings. Optimal efficiency is calculated by applying the laws of physics to the process concerned and operational efficiency is determined by quantifying the actual inputs and outputs using all available data, plus additional data logging where appropriate.

We then identify the most cost-effective opportunities to close the gap, prioritising the areas most likely to yield the greatest savings. This enables us to:

  • focus quickly on the key areas where significant savings can be made
  • identify the types of savings opportunities that are often overlooked
  • concentrate on savings with the best return on investment
  • lower implementation costs by making the best use of your existing equipment
  • provide superior business cases for subsequent work or investment
  • offer performance guarantees.

As you will see from client comments – such as that by University of Oxford below - The Green Consultancy delivers extra-ordinary service.

Our fees may be higher than you could pay for ordinary energy consultancy but we promise exceptional value for money. Is it worth the risk of overlooking £100,000 worth of highly cost-effective energy savings opportunities – or investing £100,000 in a flawed system that will never deliver as promised – all for the sake of saving a relatively insignificant amount on consultancy fees?
